- This being a standard transaction with no unforeseen issues that the transaction is concluded in a timely manner and no unforeseen complication arise.
- All parties to the transaction are co-operative and there is no unreasonable delay from third parties providing documentation and that all documentation is provided in a timely manner.
We have a specialised department dealing with the representation of our clients who have been reported for an offence, or summonsed or charged with a motoring offence. Our area of work is likely to cover:
- Been served with a Notice of intended prosecution
- Required to attend a police station under investigation
- Summonsed or charged to appear in a Magistrates Court
- To appeal to a higher Court (e.g. a Crown Court)
We are contracted to the Legal Aid Authority and can provide advice at a Police Station free of charge in many cases. We will always explain that to you at the time. In all other cases, not covered under that scheme, you will be charged for the work we carry out. The charge we make will always be agreed with you before we accept your instructions.
The amount we charge will vary depending on the experience of the Lawyer dealing with your case, the complexity of the case and the time we expect to spend on the case. Our charging rates will vary between £110.00 per hour up to £180.00 per hour depending on the matters mentioned above. By way of guidance a guilty plea in a Magistrates’ Court in respect of a minor motoring offence concluded at one hearing will be £300.00. A more complicated matter requiring two hearings will be between £500.00 and £750.00. A trial (not guilty hearing) covering two hearings will be between £1200. 00 and £1500.00 where the actual trial does not exceed one day. A 2 day trial would be between £1700.00 and £2200.00. There may be additional charges for travelling time and expenses, which we will always agree with you first.
An appeal on a motoring case in the Crown Court is likely to cost between £1500.00 and £2000.00 but may exceed this depending on the level of barrister or advocate instructed. We will always obtain an accurate estimate of fees before instructing an independent barrister.
We will always advise you of the experience and qualifications of the lawyer or lawyers assigned to your case, and provide you with details of the key stages and typical timescales.
The above figures are exclusive of VAT and the appropriate amount of VAT will be added to your invoice at the rate applicable at the date of invoice.
Licensing Applications for Business premises
We have a specialised department dealing with the provision of advice on The Licensing Acts relating to:-
- Making an application for a personal licence
- Making an application for a premises licence
- Advice relating to Late Night Refreshment, supply of alcohol, provision of regulated entertainment and associated activities
- Liaison with the Authorities involved in making such applications
- Appearances before a Licensing Committee
- Appeals to a Magistrates or Crown Court
The applications are likely to include an "off' licence application for a corner shop up to a major supermarket; temporary event notices; pubs and restaurants or any other type of premises wishing to provide a supply or service regulated under the Licensing Acts.
We will always agree with you in advance the likely legal costs and likely disbursements, for acting for you, and also provide full details of the qualifications and experience of the lawyer together with details of key stages and typical timescales. Our charges will vary depending on the time involved and the complexity of the case. We will base our charges on hourly rates but will always agree a ceiling figure with you, or in many cases we can provide a fixed fee for a particular case. Our hourly rates based on a senior licensing lawyer will be between £180 per hour up to £220 per hour. An application for a Premises Licence without the need for a hearing before a Committee is typically £900 + vat plus disbursements such as the fee payable to the Licensing Authority (£190 on average) and public notice advertising (£300 on average.) The cost of appearing before a Licensing Committee on one occasion is likely to add £500 + vat to the overall charges.
